Common Core critics must keep in mind that policy debates are won by proposing better solutions. The Core standards were adopted with a big federal boost and little public debate, but adopted they were. Teachers and school leaders have been implementing the standards since 2010, and opponents can’t wish this away any more than Obamacare critics can wish away the new landscape produced by the Affordable Care Act.
I agree 100% with the post, but hope to persuade folks that “state standards” and the shibboleth of “local control” are NOT solutions!!
That leads us right back to where we started, and CC proponents WILL WIN the debate in the minds of less engaged citizens.
My idea, which I’ve shared with some home school groups and others – mostly in comments on Facebook – is to promote a low cost MOOTS (“Massive Open On-Line Testing System).
This could for-profit or non-profit, but it need not be expensive.
Hmmmm….tell us more about what you have in mind.
