Ravitch Escapes the Dark Side of the Force

(Guest Post by Matthew Ladner)

Awesome news! Diane Ravitch escaped from the clutches of Emperor Weingarten and has disavowed the Dark Side of the Force. At least, that’s the way it looks on Twitter, where someone has taken to posting quotes from the time before Ravitch joined the Sith.

Better late than never! Welcome back Diane!

Cool, but shouldn’t it be “young Diane Ravitch”? Afterall, she’s older now (and her mind is less sharp). What’s next, “old Checker Finn”?

Disappointing! Clearly what was called for here was a reference to some sort of rift in the space/time continuum. The optimal reference would have been to the episode of the Simpsons where Stephen Hawking appears at the end to explain that a major hole in the episode plot can be explained by a rift in the space/time continuum, but even a predictable Star Trek reference would have scored higher than this awkwardly forced Star Wars reference.

A rare stumble for fan favorite Matt Ladner!

The only time travel plot I can think of where the good guys became the bad guy: Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. To the extent that BaTBJ had a plot, I think a bad guy from the future replaced Bill S. Preston, Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan with evil Bill and Ted robots.

Trying to remember what I posted earlier……….

Empower PARENTS!!! Those wanting to reform education need to always focus on empowering parents. We are the customers.

While you’re right about parents, parents aren’t the only possible constituency for education reform. Since both charters and vouchers are notably cheaper then district schools, not having to carry the pointless central administration, education reform would also be of interest to the tax-cutting organizations and to all the folks who’d find a ready use for that money if it weren’t disappearing into the maw of the central administration. Folks like mayors and municipal unions.

Would it be a good thing to have the municipal unions on the side of education reform?

  5. How about the South Park “Future Self” episode? In that case the future self was an actor used to scare kids away from using drugs. The future self was a liar saying things that authority figures wanted in exchange for money. Hmmm…

  6. Greg Forster says:

If you’re going to go South Park, I’d go for the alternate universe Trek spoof episode where the bearded “evil” Cartman is actually good.

    Maybe she’ll give up eventually… “best 2 out of 3?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3gFIDiBq0E&feature=related
