As I’ve shared often, it’s this ‘highly rated’ school that’s the real sham. I suspect its high rating comes not from the quality of instruction but the affluent parents who spend the time and money for their children to perform well on tests; the ‘average’ and students with special needs are only along for the ride, and the union contract-protected teachers expend no real effort teaching them.
My charter middle school throughout our history (13 years) has had students of color, Black boys specifically, who were attending a specific ‘highly rated’ school in an affluent SoCal neighborhood transfer to our school ‘in da hood’ because the school/teachers were indifferent at best towards them, at worse openly hostile.
This is why parental choice is as inalienable as the liberty we celebrate today.
