People willingly deceive themselves - regularly shying away from "truth" because the facts and evidence kind of truth is well, often just too unpleasant to face head-on, and it might interfere with their opinions. Truth and power are not opposites, nor must they be incompatible. The human condition, though is often too weak or unwilling and philosophically formless to keep people on track, without selling out or wielding power coercively.

I have moderated political forums form U.S. Congress to town councils and regularly observe those who, while running for office, purport to be "one of the citizens", only later to find they have become arrogant and demanding in their use of citizen-granted power.
As for science, true science includes the hard sciences and their practical application. Pseudo science is dangerous when treated as serious science.

YOU HAVE NAILED IT BEAUTIFULLY!!

All in "power" should seek to expand their wisdom by realizing that nowadays their "useful idiots" can and will find the information they need. Why would "education" need to be federally controlled?

Time for a song!! (Yes...it's STILL my favorite!)
