Fair enough, but some of the facts in the movie slip by so unnoticeably that the viewer is left wondering, "Was that a plot hole or did I just miss the 0.5 seconds where something was obliquely mentioned."

Your list of plot holes has some holes of its own! Fields was stationed in Bolivia; she was a clerk at the English embassy or consulate or whatever, where her job was "collecting reports" (M says this to Bond when they find her body). I think we're meant to infer that Fields didn't even work for intelligence; when MI6 figured out where Bond had gone, they picked up the phone and got whoever was available in Bolivia to take the job of babysitting Bond. Not too bright of them to give the job to a young woman, but perhaps they hoped Bond would be more likely to listen to her. If so, more fool they...

And the reason they killed Fields is because, as she was going up those stairs, she tripped one of the bad guys at a critical moment, allowing Bond and the other girl to get out of the party without being followed. Bad guys tend to notice little things like that!

Of course, we haven't even scratched the surface of all the holes in this movie...

Plot holes (spoilers):

When James Bond is investigating that guy in Haiti, how come the woman drives up and orders Bond to get in the car?

How did Bond know to go to the opera in the first place?

How did Fields get to Bolivia in time to greet Bond?

What happened to Fields such that after merely going up the stairs at the party, the next thing that happens is her death?

Can we please not have any more movies in which the hero is able to survive machine gun fire just by ducking?

I literally fell asleep during one of the 19 car chases in this film.

I can't believe you don't like The Spy Who Loved Me! Barbara Bach, Jaws, and a comic book villain who wants to destroy the surface world and rule from underwater- how can a Bond flick get any better?

Or the next movie, where the comic book villain wants to destroy the world and rule from a space station, but has his plan unravel when Jaws' new girlfriend doesn't meet the Supervillian Master Race standards for the new space-supermen because she's too short. Wait- why did they shoot her into outer space in the first place? Oh- never mind....
