Movies should not be like real life. Movies have a duty to provide a satisfying narrative. Have you seen Adaptation? If you don’t have a story that provides a satisfying narrative, “why the h*** are you wasting two hours of my life with your movie?”

This ambiguous middle ground has a lot more in common with real life than the two extremes you point to.

Wo00t! Speed Racer!!

I have to go see Iron Man though, to see which is better…
Though I doubt I’ll think it is. xP
I am freakin’ watching the old series of Speed Racer…
I HAD TO MAKE MYSELF A PB&J AFTER WATCHING THE MOVIE which I haven’t had in like… years…
I love this movie…
It’s just… I can’t put my finger on it… but whatever it is they added to Speed Racer, the neon colors, the updated theme song, subliminal messages, I dunno… it works…
At first I didn’t think it would be so epic… I actually had low expectations… I thought it would be forgettable… something that was not baadd… but not good… just kinda there… but jeebus chrystler I didn’t expect it to be so freakin’ awesome. @w@

And the news just keeps getting better. I just saw the box office numbers for the appalling retread job they did on Indiana Jones – which got seventy-friggin-nine percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Critics and audiences agree!

The same critics who called Speed Racer stupid gave big thumbs-ups to a movie in which [spoiler alert] Indy survives a nuclear blast by climbing into a lead-lined refrigerator.

I wish I were making that up.

Yes, Juno was very good. I think it was Podhoretz who nailed that one, too, by pointing that it’s not anti-abortion, as some people think, but [spoiler alert - for real this time] it is socially conservative because it’s anti-easy-divorce.

I’ve thrown in some graphics and clever captions. Can’t see how it slipped my mind to do that before – the power of this movie’s narrative is so dependent on images!

I completely agree and have been saying this since I first saw Racer.

It’s a better movie. That’s just true.

Both are great. Nothing wrong with Iron Man at all; it succeeds in the status quo in all the very best of ways. And straight A.
Speed Racer however – was something which blew the doors off that very same standard, and did it with heart, style and the cleverness required not to fail a very discerning fan base. A+. (And then some.. !)

I can only hope that the Wachowski’s hear such support, and don’t give up on bringing us Fantastic and Creative things!
